This classy and classic dining room was designed for a young couple who were moving from the city to the suburbs. The house was new construction. The entire house had been painted a neutral yellowy beige and the couple wanted a more sophisticated look with more depth for the dining room. They had ordered a dining room set and showed me a small fabric swatch.

The dining room was open to the living room and den area. Those areas were not going to be painted at this time. Whatever color we chose would have to look great with the existing paint color. We wanted the dining room to stand out as its own space different from the rest. We chose to go with a deeper neutral color.  Next to the white wainscoting that was painted on the lower half of the dining room walls we wanted the color to pop. The high contrast between the white woodwork and walls was what we were looking for to give this room a unique look.

Using the small swatch of the furniture as a guide we chose Benjamin Moore HC89 Northampton Putty a medium dark color from Benjamin Moore’s historical  color chart.

HC-89 Northampton Putty

classy and classic dining room color

It had some gold and yellow tones to it that would compliment the beige of the other rooms. It is great color that has depth and brightness. The client bought a fabric window shade that compliments the furniture and walls. The room looks so different, sophisticated, and classy.
