We are now going upstairs to the second floor of the new house where we find the bedrooms, more baths and a home office. As you may recall, this house was being painted before furniture and fabrics were chosen so the palette had to be neutral. The only colors we had to work with were floors and carpeting. The master bedroom suite had a light beige, off white, carpeting and we chose Benjamin Moore 990 Hampshire Taupe for the walls. We also chose window shades in a similar tone. This color has [...]

The clients wanted help in choosing paint colors for a new house under construction so that the contractor could complete it. At the time they contacted me they had not chosen any furniture yet and would wait until after they lived in the house for a while to do that. The kitchen and bathrooms fixtures and cabinetry had been chosen as well as the floors, carpeting, and tiles. My job was to choose a color palette for the house that was warm, inviting, and neutral enough so that whatever furniture would eventually [...]

The use of a strong color would help create that focal point. But which wall to accent? The architecture of the room had some interesting features. A sloping ceiling line started from the entrance doorway and [...]

Adding Pizazz to an Entrance and Stairway

We were using a similar palette throughout the first floor, warm beiges in darker and lighter shades. The client wanted to do something a little different somewhere. I suggested to paint the wall going up the stairs in the entrance an accent color. You would see it from the living room which would add some drama and pizazz to the look of the house. Red Accent Wall with Beige Walls We chose Benjamin Moore HC50 Georgian Brick. On the landing at the top of the stairs was a niche. I [...]
