This was new construction for a large formal Colonial style house. It had wide crown and floor molding throughout and wainscoting in the entrance hall and dining room. We wanted a unified, bright, crisp, clean look for all the molding throughout the house. We chose Sherwin Williams 7006 Extra White in a semi gloss finish. It is a soft white without any yellow tone. It looks great next to all the colors we chose for the rooms. Upon entering the main hall you saw a beautiful curved staircase. The clients wanted a warm inviting feeling when you came in. This [...]

A Color Palette For A New House (Part II)

By |2018-12-21T09:40:00-05:00January 26th, 2014|Case Studies, Hallways, Light Colors|

In the last blog (Part I) of choosing a color palette for a new house I showed all the colors we used and how the palette was made up of soft and neutral colors that worked together and created a nice harmony. I also talked about the kitchen, living room, dining area, and hall that were all open to each other. We, therefore, chose colors that flowed from room to room in a soft gold color. Recently a client called me to help choose colors for a house she just moved into. She hated what was there and needed help. It was a fairly new large modern center hall house. We decided to begin with the kitchen. She was not going to do major renovations for a while. The entrance hall tiles that continued throughout the kitchen were black and white marble. The cabinets and countertops were pure white. The walls had been painted a mauve pink that was awful. (I have included before and after pictures so [...]

A Very Versatile Color

I recently was called by a client who wanted to paint her entrance hall, stairway, and upper hall. It was a center hall Colonial house that didn't get much natural light. On either side at the entrance were the living and dining rooms. It had been painted years before in an off white yellowish color that was not very inviting and looked blah. The living room had a subtle wallpaper on the walls in a pale pale green color. The dining room was a deep gold color. The carpeting on the stairs [...]

Adding Pizazz to an Entrance and Stairway

By |2018-12-19T15:15:07-05:00April 4th, 2013|Accent Colors, Case Studies, Dark Colors, Hallways|

We were using a similar palette throughout the first floor, warm beiges in darker and lighter shades. The client wanted to do something a little different somewhere. I suggested to paint the wall going up the stairs in the entrance an accent color. You would see it from the living room which would add some drama and pizazz to the look of the house. Red Accent Wall with Beige Walls We chose Benjamin Moore HC50 Georgian Brick. On the landing at the top of the stairs was a niche. I [...]
