Classy and Classic Dining Room

By |2018-12-19T12:41:31-05:00November 1st, 2015|Case Studies, Dining Rooms, Neutral Palette|

This classy and classic dining room was designed for a young couple who were moving from the city to the suburbs. The house was new construction. The entire house had been painted a neutral yellowy beige and the couple wanted a more sophisticated look with more depth for the dining room. They had ordered a dining room set and showed me a small fabric swatch. The dining room was open to the living room and den area. Those areas were not going to be painted at this time. Whatever color we chose would have [...]

Long Distance Color Consulting (Part II)

By |2018-12-19T16:11:08-05:00October 4th, 2015|Bathrooms, Bedrooms, Case Studies, Neutral Palette|

In this post I will be discussing "long distance color consulting" that I did for a client building a new house in the Adirondacks. It was too far to travel and we decided to choose colors not on the actual site.  It's a challenge because colors change in different lighting and all the things the client chose like tiles, bathroom fixtures, kitchen cabinets, etc. were things I would see only in pictures. She did have a few actual samples of tile for me to see which was very helpful. Part II is the discussion for [...]

Purple Master Bath

How did we come up with a purple master bath? This was a new house construction. It was a large traditional house. We chose colors for most of the rooms  that were soft and subtle with a good flow from room to room. When we came to the master bedroom suite we continued choosing colors that were muted and soft, colors that went beautifully with the carpeting and bedding. But when we came to the master bath the client wanted something different, something that would stand out but not knock you out. She [...]

Making a Screened Porch Inviting

By |2018-12-19T17:01:13-05:00July 29th, 2015|Case Studies, Exteriors|

A client called me to help choose colors for a screened porch she was remodeling and painting to make it more inviting and more harmonious with the rest of the house. The porch came off of an open dining room/kitchen  with glass doors on one entire wall. The ceiling was a beamed wood ceiling and the client hated the closed in dark feeling the beams created. She investigated how to get rid of the beams without damaging the structure. The first order of business was to structurally remove the beams and open the [...]

New Wall Unit with Media Center

By |2018-12-19T12:55:03-05:00June 23rd, 2015|Accent Colors, Case Studies, Wall Arrangments|

I was asked to design a wall unit for a living room that included a media center. The client hated what she had on the wall and directed me to an use units from an Italian modular furniture company called Presotto. She sent me various catalogs to work from. One of the most unusual and interesting furniture units was part of Presotto designlife 2014 catalog. Here's how the company describes their furniture units called InclinART. InclinART, an exclusive modular furniture system that changes the basic rules that govern furniture. Its axis becomes variable and the depths of the tops change [...]
